Raising The Roof on Awareness
The Challenge
Imagine you can't get a job, not because you don't want one, but because a large percentage of applications requires a driving licence despite not having any driving in the role. You may not have a license as you can't afford the lessons, or your abuser may have prevented you. It might be because abuse or a mental health condition has taken away your confidence to deal with the enclosed and often crowded public transport, or being in a car with a strange instructor. I want to help change this!
The Mission
Everyday standard society conventions are unintentionally blocking thousands of individuals from forging a productive life in our communities and confining them to a marginalised role, making them vulnerable. This is where not-for-profit Community Driving School excel, and work along side students helping build their confidence, teaching them to drive and offering careers support. In return students volunteer in their community and the CDS aim is to be nationwide.
So I want to help in this mission, and am directly trying to change the social perception of racing as an elite sport by using the unique motorsport environment to allow the CDS students to get involved and build their confidence, work experience and ultimately employability by working with me at race weekends.
The Fernlea Phoenix is the mascot of the Community Driving School and represents those who have overcome dreadful adversity and are rising from the ashes.
How You Can Support
I am seeking to 'Raise the Roof on Awareness' and am dedicating the entire roof of my race car to this effort, and you are invited to get involved.
Unlike many drivers who have wealthy backgrounds, every race to me is a challenge to find the support, but I am determined to reach my dreams and the more support I can find, the more benefit I can provide the students of CDS on this journey.
So I have divided the roof of my 2021 race car into 75mm Chequer flag squares, and provide you the opportunity for a minimum donation of £150 to buy a square or more if you wish. In return I will:
- Make a minimum donation of £50 in your name to The Community Driving School which can be used to help students.
- Add a simple message you wish to provide me or, put your name/photo in your square(s), or even a photo of a loved one you want to do this in memory of.
- As well as reporting contributions and progress on my social media channels and this website, we will arrange for you to receive the monthly CDS newsletter where updates on how your contributions are helping will also be reported.
- Of course, if you ever attend a race, you are more than welcome to come and find us and say hello and have your picture taken with the car.
You name/image will be retained on the car for the season (or as long as my funds allow which ever is the longest) and the roof will be used to actively support any marketing, promotion or filming or social media of both Community Driving School and Shanel Drewe Racing.
I will be proud to raise under your support to raise awareness of this cause.
How Can I Donate
Please use the PayPal button below to donate together with a short description of your initial support (e.g. number of squares etc.), we will email you back with instructions on how to get your image to us and Community Driving School will acknowledge your donation direct and confirm you addition to their newsletter.
